Kolka and the sheeps

Kolka had a test today - a herding nature test with the herding group (in the Icelandic Kennel Club). Last year 26 sheepdogs took the test and 17 passed and 9 failed. The purpose is to test the dogs herding nature. The model is from the American Herding Breed Association.

Last wednesday we had a practise run at the farm the test was held. That was the very first time she encountered sheeps (at least the first time she got to run free with them) and her nature was obvious. We kept the time short, just to let her know that it was ok to herd the sheeps and praised her alot when she did.

Today on the testday she did very well and we think she passed (we'll know next week and post the resaults here). Kolka was VERY interested in the sheeps and both hearded them and cut them off. The sheeps ran from Kolka when she was hearding them and when they got to the end of the fence they sometimes turned around and faced Kolka, tried to headbutt in her general direction with-out any results - Kolka was quicker on her feet but always came back very sure of herself. Even after the test when we were outside the fence talking to people she stared at the sheeps and barked and whined because she wanted to keep on hearding them.

We had a great time and it was very interesting to see the nature of Kolka being so strong.
